This document explains how to reset and back up Office 2008

Ensure all Office applications are closed.
Navigate to ~User/Library/Preferences folder and drag all the files to desktop that starts with com.microsoft.xxx.plist (xxx=name of Office app)

Additionally delete/Move following files:
- Application/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/OfficePID.plist
- ~ User/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office 2008 Settings.plist

If user is having problem with font then delete 'Office Font Cache (12)', located in the same folder as Microsoft Office 2008 Settings.plist.
Office is now successfully reset.
If all is well, trash the old file otherwise, quit all Office apps again, trash the new files and drag the original files back to where they belong.

Backups

How to enable automatic save in Microsoft Office 2008?

Open Microsoft Word (or any other Office App).
Hold Command and Comma key.
System Preferences window would open.

In System Preferences > Save > enable 'Always create a backup copy' and 'Save AutoRecover info every 2 Min'.

Template Backups

Normal.dotm

When newly blank document crashes, it is possible the problem persists in normal.dotm. Try renaming the existing normal.dotm to oldnormal.dotm and reopen word to recreate a new normal.dotm.

The location for normal.dotm are as follows:

Office 2008: ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/Normal.dotm
Word 2004: ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Normal
Word X, Word 2001, Word 98: /Applications/Microsoft Office ***/Templates/Normal (where *** stands for your version of Office)

If by chance the normal.dotm location is changed, the normal.dotm can be located by opening Microsoft Office Word>Preferences>File Locations> dialog to confirm its location.

If the old normal.dotm is corrupt and there are customizations in old Normal that you don't want to lose – such as macros, AutoText, custom toolbars, and styles – you can transfer them from OldNormal to your new Normal using Organizer. Microsoft 3d movie maker download.

Restore customization from old Normal to new Normal

Open Word
Use File>Open to navigate to the template location noted above.
Change the Show drop-down list to Word Templates.

Choose Normal or Normal.dotm and click Open.

Title Bar at the top of the Word window must show 'Normal' otherwise, repeat from step 1.

Click on Tools>Templates and Add-ins dialog, click the Organizer button.

Just below the left window, Organizer should be showing Styles available In: Normal (global template) Otherwise you've got the wrong one open. Start again from step 1.

The right window of the Organizer should be blank. There is a Close File button below the left-hand window, and a Close File button below the right-hand window. Click the button on the right.

You should now be able to see your old Normal Template in the directory; if you cannot, search until you find it. Choose it, and Open it.

At the top of the Organizer dialog, above both windows, there is a row of tabs, one for each kind of resource the Organizer can copy. Click the tab for the kind of item you want to bring back. Let’s assume you want to bring your styles back: Click the Styles tab.

Organizer now shows you a list of the items available within each kind (if you clicked the Styles tab in the previous step, you see a list of the styles in each template). The left window lists the items in your new template, the right window lists the items in the old template. In the right-hand window, choose the item(s) you want to restore. You can select more than one.

Click copy
Repeat for each additional kind of resource you wish to copy.
Click Close File under both windows.
Hold down your Shift key and choose Save All from the File menu. Save All does not appear unless you hold down your shift key.
Quit Word and restart it (to force it to update its preferences).
All the settings should be transfered.

Entourage 2008 for Mac is an updated version of MS Office with advanced features to manage and recover quick access to your data. However, users may sometimes encounter one of the following messages:

Office Database is Damaged
Entourage cannot access your data. To try to fix the problem, rebuild the database
The action could not be completed. An unknown error occurred

Cause of the error message:

Entourage Identity lets its users create more than one account to access email contacts, calendar entries, tasks, journals, etc., but all identities (alternately database) are separate and unique, and each identity uses a different set of account settings, appointments emails and more. The problem occurs when multiple identities create messages, tasks, notes, appointments, etc., and the information store increases beyond the prescribed size, then the Entourage identities are subject to damages and there is a need to rebuild entourage 2008 database.

Consider the following case:

In this case, the user tries to archive the old emails, and despite being successfully archived, there is an issue with Entourage database:

Entourage performance is drastically reduced when there is less free space. User tries to make the system more efficient by archiving the old emails and thus freeing some space:

Import Inbox to .RGE archive
Attach compressed archive to local storage
Shut down the storage
Build a duplicate copy of the main identity

When the user tries to load Main identity without verifying its contents, then everything appeared perfect in Entourage, but when the user tries to access the last seen folder, it contained corruption. The corruption affected the archive as well as the Inbox, which is connected to Exchange server. Subsequently, the user is also unable to access the main identity folder, and the only way to solve this problem is to rebuild the Entourage database.

Resolve the issue

The Repair and Rebuild Entourage 2008 database resolves the issue in two ways –

Using the Inbuilt Database Utility of MS Entourage
Using reliable automated software

Use the inbuilt database utility of MS Entourage to rebuild the database and resolve the corruption issue of Entourage corruption. Follow the below-mentioned steps to repair entourage 2008 database:

Quit all apps.

Press the ‘Command option’ and ‘Escape key’ together; select an app and click on ‘Force Quit’. Once you have quit the application, close the Force Quit Application window

Test the free space as available on the disk

The free space should be three times the space on the current size of the identity folder. Factorio mods forum. Examine the free space by opening the Identity folder available in the Finder option. Go to file and click on Get Info followed by Get Information. For a successful rebuild, the size of free space should be 3 GB if the current size of identity is 1 GB.

Create backup

Rebuild the database with the help of backup. To create the backup:

Go Home and double click on Documents folder followed by Microsoft user data folder
Next, double click on Office 2008 Identifies
Right click on Identity folder and click on Duplicate
Close all the open Windows

4. Rebuild the database and Create a new Identity

Press Alt key and restart Entourage while holding the Alt key till the Database Utility option opens
Select the main identity available in Database Utility. Click Rebuild database followed by Continue
The status bar displays the status of the Rebuild Once the process is complete, and the database is rebuild than a message displays on the screen stating that ‘Your Database was successfully rebuilt.’
Click on Close button followed by Quit, and this should repair Entourage 2008 database

If the database rebuild is not successful, then create a New Identity. Database rebuild situation arises when the Exchange server has multiple identities, and there is a requirement to establish a new identity to resolve the problem. The following steps help in creating the new identity:

Quit All apps and search for a given folder ‘HD/Users/USER_NAME/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/IDENTITY_NAME’ and copy it to the desktop
Start Entourage an click on Entourage menu to click on Switch Identity
Click New and type in the new name of the identity
Quit Entourage and search for the folder ‘HD/Users/USER_NAME/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/NEW_IDENTITY_NAME’ and rename it with ‘New’ ’
Copy the database contained in the old database to the new folder
